Executive Director Steps Down
The Board of Directors of the Charles R. Wood Theater has announced Erin Coon will step down as Executive Director of the Charles R. Wood Theater effective July 1, 2016. Ms. Coon joined the Wood as Operations Manager in November of 2010 and was named full time Executive Director in November of 2012 after a nationwide search to replace former Executive Director William “Bill” Woodward.
During her 5 years with the Wood, Erin has worked tirelessly to make the theater a welcoming home for arts in the community. She has significantly increased family programming at the Wood, introducing new series and forging partnerships with producing companies focused on family friendly or curriculum based performing arts. Under her management, the Wood Theater schedule has boomed with nearly 400 events in 2015 and 370 already planned for 2016.
Erin’s collaborative spirit along with her desire to make the arts accessible to the whole community has helped welcome over 30,000 people per year to the theater not only for performances but for rehearsals, meetings and even weddings. She has also worked with many other nonprofits to help make their fundraising events at the Wood as easy and profitable as possible. Under her leadership, the Wood Theater has maintained its position as an anchor in the downtown Glens Falls economic landscape, helping to bring people to the City. Financially, the Wood Theater has shown continued growth over the last five years and is on course to successfully complete its NeighborWood Capital Campaign, launched in 2013 under Erin’s guidance, to help the theater raise funds necessary for technological, energy efficiency and building upgrades.
Erin’s immediate plans include finishing her doctorate and starting a family. Erin plans to continue her board service to Art in the Public Eye, co-chairing Outdoor Cinema, Rocky Horror Picture Show and the annual 24 Hour Play Fest. She will also continue her work with the Arts District of Glens Falls.
In preparation for Erin’s departure, the Wood’s Human Resource Committee and the ad-hoc Search Committee have redeveloped the staff structure to include a Program Director and Development Director.
We are pleased to announce that current Wood Theater Business Manager, Daniel Slavin has been named Program Director, effective April 1, 2016. Dan will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Wood Theater including scheduling, renter relations, bookkeeping, public relations, volunteer coordination and box office management. Dan is a 2010 graduate from Glens Falls High School and holds a BA in Business from the University of Rochester. He is an active member of the local theater community and sits on the Glens Falls Community Theatre board of directors. Dan brings experience in business administration, sales, customer service and business development. His passion and dedication to the arts, our community and the Wood made him the first choice for this newly created position.
A search will be conducted in April for the Development Director who will be responsible for fundraising, relationship development, and grant writing.
